south africa world cup 2010 logo The Ivory Coast [5 Dec 2009]: The African Cup of Nations and World Cup draws have both ended. And I take from these events one unalterable and eternal truth: Didier Drogba is death. The African Cup of Nations pot 1 group, with Egypt and Camaroon, would be a difficult group but for Drogba ominous presence. Now all shudder for fear of the mask of the red death. And the World Cup 2010? Group G? G stands for grisly demise. The North Korean Republic may not make your knees tremble, but neither Portugal nor Brazil In 2006, the Ivory Coast was drawn with Serbia, Argentina, and the Netherlands.

Argentina had been knocked out of the 2002 World Cup in the first round, the Dutch implode like clockwork, and Serbia was, and is, Serbia. So what made that group so menacing? Was it Roman Riquelme footspeed? Nemanja Vidic footskills? Marco Van Basten charming personality? No. It was one man. Didier Drogba. Sleep tight Carvahlo. Sleep tight, Alex. Drogba is watching you train every single day and only he knows the contents of the last chapter of your storied careers. ....

south africa world cup 2010 logo The North Korea [7 Dec 2009]: North Korea Will Qualify From Group of Death -North Korea inclusion in the Group of Death in South Africa is excellent news for those of us supporting the DPRK at the Finals. Brazil, Portugal and Ivory Coast are all advocates and practitioners of the era attacking football philosophy. Watch them come unstuck. north_korean_teamIn 1966, in North Korea last appearance at the Finals, the prevailing world soccer philosophy was defensive. North Korea showed up with ten attackers and went to the quarter-finals, only to lose to Portugal, after leading 3-0. This time, they come to the Finals with an all-out defense, their own peculiar Asian form of catenaccio. Brazil, Portugal and Ivory Coast will be drawn out, and the Chollima will strike on the break with a venom that will leave their opponents paralyzed with shock. For those of us who admire and believe in defensive football, it will be vindication.

Jong Tae Se is the North secret weapon, their top striker during qualification. On hearing of the draw for South Africa he said, I want to play against the strongest teams in the world. I am not afraid, I think it a great opportunity and a challenge. I will be very ambitious.

With the North Koreans able to conceal their plans, their opponents will have little clue on what to expect. While Brazil, Portugal and Ivory Coast will bring their arrogance, North Korea will bring home the results. North Korea. Second round. Bet on it. ....

 World Cup 2010 Team Guide

brazil south africa world cup 2010 logo The Brazil national football team was founded in the year 1914 and is presently controlled by the CBF. They are the most successful football nation in the world with 5 World Cup wins. Thus for football, it is rightly said that, 'The English invented it, the Brazilians perfected it'.

Brazil earned their second title in the 1962 World Cup and Garrincha was declared as the star player. He had to replace Pele who was injured early on in the tournament. The 1966 World Cup in England was less successful for Brazil, It seemed that the performance of the team was affected by political turmoil. Later in 1970, the team bounced back and won their third World Cup title. The 1970 squad was considered to be the best team ever and was led by the legendary player, Pele. The team and country most associated with the World Cup, Brazil's love affair with the greatest show on earth has been one of constant attendance. They are the only team to have played in all 19 tournaments and their non-participation is almost unthinkable.

Brazil won the South American qualifying tournament with ease, and could afford to lose and draw their last two matches with Bolivia and Venezuela respectively. Coach Dunga ignored those who criticised his style of play as Luis Fabiano starred in attack and Julio Cesar in goal. During their campaign, they beat Argentina 3-1 away for the first time in 14 years, and they once again enter the finals tournament as a heavily-favoured team.
